APP Pharmaceuticals announced that the company will ship generics of Primaxin IV (Imipenem and Cilastatin) and Merrem (peropenem) for injection starting the Week of Feb 13.

is the combination product of Imipenem and Cilastatin and the brand is marketed by Merck & Co. Merrem IV is currently being marketed by AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.
APP's Imipenem and Cilastin combination will be available in 250 mg and 500 mg single dose vials. Meropenem will be available in 500 mg and 1 gram dose vials.
The sales of both products are estimated to be $229M in 2011 according to IMS data in the US.
Primaxin is is a broad spectrum antibiotic that works against gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. It has been approved for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible strains.
Meropenem belongs to a class of antibiotic called carbapenem and has been approved for the treatment of intra-abdominal infections caused by susceptible pathogens, meningitis (in children 3 months of age and older) caused by S. pneumoniae, H. influenzae, and N. meningitidis, and complicated skin and soft tissue infections caused by pathogens that are susceptible to meropenem.
